Weapon Control Places and Schedule

Weapon control will take place in front of the entrance of the Main Hall.
Weapon Control will operate a numbering system in order to avoid long queues. Each fencer, when arriving at weapon control, will have to take a numbered ticket and then wait to be served until his/her number is called by the weapon control staff.
Fencers, after accreditation, must submit their weapons and equipment to the main weapon control room, in accordance with the following schedule:

Weapon control opening time will be from 9:00 to 19:00 except on May 24th, the first day, when the weapon control room will open at 10:00 and on May 28th, the last day, when the weapon control room will close at 11:00.

Requirements regarding the equipment

  • All the equipment must be in good condition and working order complying with FIE regulations
  • The list of accepted items is listed in table #1
  • The name of the athlete and the name of the country must be printed in dark blue on the back; the size of the letters shall be between 8 and 10 cm high. All the prints must be readable.
  • All the logos and marks of the manufacturer logos must be in conformity with the FIE requirements.
  • After collecting the equipment, it’s necessary for the athletes to check the presence of the control markings.

The features that will be checked by the equipment control are the following:

Weapons

The look of the weapons will be considered, with special attention to the blade and to the guard. The shape will be verified using the appropriate gauge. The electrical wires in the guard will be verified. The electrical functionality of the weapons will not be tested by the weapon control.

Masks

The quality label and relevant certification will be verified. The general look will be evaluated, with special attention the condition of the mesh, to the safety systems at the rear of the mask and to the padding. In sabre, the electrical conductivity of the metal mesh of the mask will be measured.

Bodywires

The electrical functionality of the bodywires will be tested by the weapon control. The electrical resistance, the length and the presence of soldering in the crocodile clip will not be tested.

Mask wires

The electrical functionality of the mask wires will be tested by the weapon control. The electrical resistance, the length, the colour and the presence of soldering in the crocodile clip will not be tested. Coiled mask wires will be allowed.

Conductive Jackets

The electrical conductivity of the conductive jacket will be tested. The presence of the name and the country of the fencer will be verified. The symmetry of the shape will not be considered.

Black colour will be allowed if it doesn’t cover more than 10% of the surface of the clothing.

Clothing

The quality label and relevant certification will be verified. The presence of the name and the country of the fencer will be verified. The general look will be evaluated, with special attention to the seams and to the zips. The wearing of national colours is strongly recommended, but not mandatory.

Gloves

The general condition will be evaluated with special attention to the presence of holes. In sabre, the quality label and relevant certification will be verified.

Breast/chest protectors

The use of a breast protector (made of metal or some rigid materials) is compulsory for women; at foil, the breast protector must be worn underneath the protective plastron.

Mask design

Masks may feature coloured designs, on condition that they are approved by FIE.
